A Collection of Couloirs

Vanping in Ophir, hanging with Kevin and Todd, and skiing right from our backyard lead to an amazing week in the San Juan’s. We spent a few days exploring the lengthly expanse of Yellow Mtn. and its endless couloir lines!

“Magnum” Couloir

Almost pulled the plug on this tour due to the approaching storm and the huge apron we had to navigate with a likely suncrust from the clear warm day before. Indeed the storm closed in as we got to the apron above treeline. We made quick work of the firm apron with ski crampons, the storm intensified as we made it to the confines of the couloir. Then the reward, the chute was in an optimal direction for the strom and ended up catching and collecting about a foot of snow from the storm…good thing we didn’t pull the plug on the tour:)
